AQUAFIL

  Since 1969, AQUAFIL has been one of the leading manufacturers of polyamide 6, a benchmark in terms of quality and product innovation both in Italy and abroad. The Group has 15 plants employing more than 2400 people in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, the United Kingdom, Germany,  the United States, Thailand and China.

 It operates through two product divisions:

  •  BCF: production of filaments for textile floorings
  •  NTF: synthetic fibers for the apparel and sports industries.

 Always committed to taking true measures to protect the environment, AQUAFIL established the Energy & Recycle business unit in 2008. This division supports all of the Group's manufacturing units to promote:

  •  the principles of sustainability both inside and outside the Group;
  •  the use of low impact or renewable energy;
  •  the use of recycled materials.

 In May 2011, AQUAFIL established the first ECONYL® production system in Ljubljana (Slovenia) with a planned investment of €17m to produce the nylon 6 polymer from:

  •  post-consumer waste, i.e. end-of-life products made from polyamide 6 including fishnets, fluff (carpets and rugs) and rigid textiles;
  •  pre-consumer waste such as oligomers, scraps and others, generated from the production of nylon 6.

 Planned and implemented entirely by AQUAFIL, the ECONYL® Regeneration System not only develops a new technology but also creates several production chains specialized in the recovery of waste collected worldwide.

 The project developed in the following stages:

  •  An exclusive chemical/mechanical production process entirely developed by the Energy & Recycling division enables Nylon 6 waste to be regenerated indefinitely. The resulting product is a polymer with the same technical and quality characteristics of the product obtained with traditional systems;
  •  Set up an international network for the collection of reclaimed materials and a logistics chain to transport them to the production plants.

We like it because:

  • It applies sustainable production through technological innovations.
  • It develops and supports a sustainability culture with all stakeholders both through regular staff training and by establishing partnerships with customers and suppliers.
  • The Company promotes the use of recycled materials while designing products that can be fully recycled at the end of their life.
  • It uses ALDFG in the ECONYL® project.
