On Saturday 8 June, more than three hundred people took part in the public event organized by the Institute of Marine Sciences of Venice (ISMAR-CNR), in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, the Venetian District of Research and Innovation, Science Gallery Venice and with the Museum of Natural History, to celebrate the World Oceans Day 2019. During the event, the exhibition "The art of marine sciences - Oceans portrayed by artists and researchers", born from the collaboration among some students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice and some CNR researchers was presented to the citizens. Starting from the analysis of some environmental issues, the artists have reworked the information in the light of their artistic sensibility, creating suggestive art-works that have been set up in the large atrium of the Institute of Marine Sciences. As part of this exhibition, an art-work related the ghost net issue has been realized by two young and talented artists, Giulia Deganello and Erica Giacomazzi, who were scientifically supported by Nicoletta Nesto and Riccardo Fiorin. The installation, entitled "Trama di Fondo" consisting of a 10 minutes sound track and fishing equipment recovered from the seabed, allowed the visitors to reflect on the damage caused by the ghost nets but also on the potential of these waste materials, retracing the main stages of the Life GHOST project and discovering the ambitious goals of the marGnet project which aims to find new chemical recycling solutions to transform this waste into marine fuel.
